Effective teams seem to exhibit a set of common characteristics, characteristics which are associated with a mature team and effective team working. These characteristics can be referred to as the building blocks, to be used in a team building. These building blocks (that underpin our approach to team development) are as follows:

The four stages of team development are:

Many times a team member will resist working in a team, or continually disrupt the group. Methods for handling these behaviors are included in Team Development as well. Rather than working in a majority rule environment, effective teams learn to gain consensus for each decision. Consensus means 100% commitment to the solution by 100% of the group, even though there might not be perfect agreement. Everyone must live with and support the decision.

Well constructed example of the five stages of team development. Thanks!

Teams go through different stages as they develop. Team leaders need to understand how teams develop. The teams go through four different cycles: Forming, Storming, Norming, and PerformingThe activities provide the vehicles for team members to enjoy a common experience; explore, discuss, and resolve issues that have arisen; and then apply what they have learned to their work. Additional features provide trainers with resources to make team development easier and more effective, including a program design framework, checklists for use with activities, and an index of games organized by skill (objective). What is needed to achieve them? For example, members might benefit from a training that provides a brief overview of the typical stages of team development and includes packets of materials about the team’s goals, structure and process to make decisions. Through incorporating theories from Belbin and Myers Brigs into our outdoor sessions we can begin to develop a deeper understanding of team dynamics amidst our beautiful landscape. At the initiation of the development project, the program manager or managementteam would develop a plan that indicated personnel required from each functionaldepartment to support the development effort. This manpower plan would bethe basis for requesting personnel to be assigned to the project. Personnelassignment could be full-time for the duration of the project, full-timefor a portion of the project, part-time for the duration of the project,or part time for a short period of time.We believe rarely develop naturally and the building blocks required to create optimal team performance needs to be defined, managed and monitored. By transforming the way team members think and act through team development will inevitably lead to a culture of trust, innovation, collaboration and pursuit of excellence. When a small group of individuals has a similar culture and seeks a mutual benefit, they develop a synergy. When the group collaborate their skills, are committed to common performance goals, and hold themselves mutually accountable, they bring about a unity for success and this becomes a team. Team Development comes first from understanding what constitutes a team and the stages of group development. By analysing your teams' characteristics, strategies are identified to evolve your group into high performance.Your teams will be encouraged to experiment with the activities and to relate the learning to their work. Your team will develop back at work plans to apply the learning. (In learning by experience the value of an activity becomes apparent when it is tried fully, then tested back at work.)So you and your collegues are tired of experiencing the sypmptoms of poor teamwork. You understand or want to understand the stages of team development and the team building blocks (see below) used in the 4 stages of team building, in order to enable your team to become a mature team. The different designs which can be derived from our materials and building blocks approach are almost endless. A few examples are given below, to show how we can design and arrange for different team development purposes, up, down and across organisations (around the world.)
