The week-long Fall 2013 Dissertation Retreat finishes today.

The Thesis & Dissertation Retreat will offer participants time to write along with presentations about setting goals, structuring writing time, and addressing obstacles that may complicate progress toward completion. Participants will also meet with Graduate School Writing Center Fellows for one-on-one consultations about their writing.

The purpose of the FAMU-UCF AACTE Holmes Scholars Dissertation Retreat and Research Symposium is to provide professional development and one-to-one mentoring on the dissertation process and to provide an avenue for the dissemination of doctoral students’ research. These are exciting times for the AACTE Holmes Scholars as we continue to grow and adapt, remaining motivated and responsive to the needs of underrepresented doctoral students. The conference represents some of the best work that supports professional development and leadership among scholars to enhance research, practice, and policy within the broader education context.It was announced the Florida A & M University COE would host the 2015 FAMU-UCF AACTE Holmes Scholars Dissertation Retreat and Research Symposium and the University of Central Florida COE will host the 2016 and 2017 FAMU-UCF AACTE Holmes Scholars Dissertation Retreat and Research Symposium. Attend one of our 3-day Dissertation Retreats and complete your project quickly. Each May Term, fifteen dissertation writers from across the University gather in 15 Nicholson Hall for three weeks of concentrated dissertation-writing time in a supportive group setting. Attend one of our 3-day Dissertation Retreats and complete your project quickly. Relax and focus on your dissertation while having an editor, methodologist, and statistician (with PhDs) at your disposal.

Thanks to generous support from the Office for Student Affairs and the College of Liberal Arts, Student Writing Support offers a free annual Dissertation Writing Retreat. Each May Term, fifteen dissertation writers from across the University gather in 15 Nicholson Hall for three weeks of concentrated dissertation-writing time in a supportive group setting. Students writing dissertations have an additional form of support this summer. University Writing Services, housed within the Student Success Center, will be offering two dissertation writing retreats.

These three-day Dissertation Summer Camps will be offered twice (May 27, 28 and 29, and June 8, 9 and 10, with an option day on June 11). Each day of the camp will last from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Open to graduate students from across campus, the retreat will offer structured time to write, writing strategies, and one-on-one feedback for select attendees. Both sessions of the retreat will be held in Xavier Hall 234.

The Dissertation Writing Retreat is an initiative sponsored by The Graduate School to support graduate students in meeting their dissertation writing productivity goals. For three intensive days, doctoral students from all disciplines will meet in a quiet space for extended blocks of time that are dedicated to writing. During the retreat, participants will share their daily writing goals and progress, receive feedback to address challenges, and attend short lunchtime workshops. The retreat is also a platform for formal and informal reflection and discussion about writing, which can help to improve one’s writing skills. Students nearing completion of dissertation writing are especially encouraged to apply, however all graduate students in the dissertation writing stage or working on research writing for publication are encouraged to apply. The workshop topics may change or be added in response to participant needs.
